The IEC supports incoming students with eligible visas by providing one or two years of intensive English studies depending on their educational background. The students are provided with a supportive and stimulating environment to ensure they reach their maximum potential. The Intensive English Curriculum is designed to meet the educational needs of all students from both limited and formal education backgrounds.
The students learn English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD) and are taught by specialist EAL/D teachers. The EAL/D Progress Map is used to assess student achievement and a Progress Report is issued to the parents or care givers at the end of each semester. Education Assistants support teachers in the teaching and learning program.
English acquisition also occurs through Maths, Science, HASS and Health Classes. Option classes include Home Economics, Music, Art, Woodwork, Metal Work, Physical Education, Drama, Robotics, Media and the Elite Soccer Program. All students attend compulsory swimming lessons for 2 weeks, once per year. The program is run by qualified instructors through the Department of Education of Western Australia
